According to Trovoada, the coup attempt began around 00:40 (03:40 Moscow time) and ended after 06:00 (09:00 Moscow time).

Four men, including former National Assembly President Delfim Santiago das Neves and a former mercenary soldier involved in the 2009 coup, attempted to attack Sao Tome and Principe’s army headquarters, according to AFP.

According to the witness of the incident, cited by the agency, she heard “shots from automatic and heavier weapons, as well as explosions.”

It is specified that the attackers were detained.

In July, former US national security adviser John Bolton said he personally helped plan coups d’état in other countries. After that, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, announced the need to investigate in which countries of the world the United States planned coups.
