Since September, Finland has drastically reduced the issuance of tourist visas to Russians – to one-tenth of the previous level.

Previously, Finland accepted an average of a thousand visa applications per day from Russians, and since September – 500 applications, only one hundred of which could concern tourist visas.

From September 30, Finland will close the border for Russian tourists. Russians will still be able to come to the country for family reasons, to study, work or for treatment.

“The acceptance of visa applications will be severely limited. Principal decision [о закрытии границ – прим.ред.] does not interfere with travel necessary for humanitarian reasons,” the Finnish diplomats stressed.

According to them, such visas will be issued in order to protect the national interests of Finland or as part of the fulfillment of international obligations.
