MINSK, 21 September. /TASS/. Belarus calls for the lifting of sanctions on Belarusian fertilizers, this will help to avoid starvation in poor countries. This is how the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the republic, Vladimir Makei, who takes part in the 77th session of the UN General Assembly, commented on the words of US President Joe Biden that the grain initiative should work.
“We share the US President’s call that the grain initiative, created with the support of the UN Secretary General, should work,” the minister said, quoted by the press service of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry on Wednesday. “Belarus also shares the opinion that fertilizers are important for farms, to avoid starvation.” At the same time, Makei called for “the lifting of sanctions on Belarusian fertilizers.”
The United States imposed sanctions against dozens of Belarusian companies, including Belaruskali OJSC. The largest enterprise of the petrochemical complex of Belarus, JSC Grodno Azot, which is part of the state concern Belneftekhim, is also under restrictive measures. The Lithuanian government annulled the agreement on the transit of Belarusian fertilizers.
