The Chinese people are grateful to Russian President Vladimir Putin for China’s support for the Taiwan issue, said Gao Zhikai, a professor at Soochow University and deputy director of the Center for China and Globalization.
“In the face of intimidation from the United States, Putin openly supports China on the Taiwan issue, supports China’s fundamental interests, and is a friend of China, for which the entire Chinese people are very grateful to him,” the professor quotes RIA News”.
He also noted that Putin’s display of such a stance while the US is pushing its Taiwan Policy Bill further encourages the Chinese people to maintain good Sino-Russian relations.
On the eve of the Secretary of the Security Council of Russia Nikolai Patrushev arrived to China to participate in consultations on strategic stability and public security.
Last Thursday, Russian President Vladimir Putin during a meeting with Xi Jinping notedthat Russia firmly adheres to the One China principle and condemns the US provocations in Taiwan. He also stated that the foreign policy tandem of Russia and China plays a key role in ensuring global and regional stability.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov appreciated talks between the leaders of the Russian Federation and China in Samarkand, noting that Moscow and Beijing fully agree in their assessments of the international situation and will continue to coordinate their actions. On the same day, EU diplomat Josep Borrell expressed confidence that China took side of Russia. He noted “political cooperation and a very serious rapprochement between the two countries.”
Recall that on March 7, the government of the Russian Federation contributed Taiwan is on the list of countries and territories unfriendly to Russia. Earlier, the Taiwan authorities joined the Western sanctions against the Russian Federation.
