“So my six-month suspension has ended! True, there is little joy from this, since it is still very far from the actual possibility of taking part in international competitions …

My participation is possible only if the FIDE tournaments are held in friendly countries and if I can play under the Russian flag and not change the flag to FIDE or FSR. In addition, it is possible that FIDE, under pressure from the Western chess community, may change its mind.

In any case, thank you very much to the huge number of fans who supported me and my position all these six months, and what’s already there, all the last eight years! Victory will surely be ours!” Karjakin wrote in his telegram channel.

Sergey Karjakin was suspended from participation in tournaments under the auspices of FIDE from March 21 for six months. The reason for the disqualification was the public announcement of his political position: the grandmaster supported Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine.
